Below are all the class topics and teachers that we’ll be having at SOAR 2019. Each topic will be taught by two different teachers (in two different classrooms). Overall we’ll be having 20 teachers/classes this year. We also have two of our ladies teaching Girls Only classes. Check out the teachers and topics below.

  • Root Rot – A Christian can look good while their roots are really dying. Ultimately this is caused by disobedience (Isaiah 5:24) I am sure there are a lot of other reasons why our Christian roots may be rotting, even though things may look just fine.
  • Teachers: Darrell Powell, Lauren Hinote (Girls Only Class)

  • Getting to the Root of the Problem – The root of our faith and everything we do is our heart. God wants our hearts more than anything and it is from our hearts that flow the springs of life and the things that defile us (Proverbs 4:23, Matt. 15:15-20).
  • Teachers: Andrew Itson, Tony Edwards

  • Vine, Branches, Roots – Abide and be rooted in Jesus (John 15). Boom.
  • Teachers: Devin Morris, Jared Kelly

  • Planting Yourself in God’s Word – If we are going to be strong Christians we have to be deeply invested in the word of God and know it well (Psalm 92:12-14).
  • Teachers: Matt Wheeler, Alan Pitchford

  • Not Seeing the Forest for the Trees (Not Seeing THE CHURH for the _______) – There are a lot of things that get in the way of how each Christian is involved with “The Church” but that is the main focus isn’t it? We are all members of ONE body with Christ as the head and our young people need to know that.
  • Teachers: Malvin Sanders, Phil Baus

  • Starts with a Seed – All of the blessings of being a Christian begin with a seed being planted. We need to be planting seeds everywhere we go! (Practical evangelism tips and tools would be good for this class)
  • Teachers: Hunter Kennamer, John Mark Stephenson

  • Tangled Up in The Wrong Roots? – The people we spend our time with WILL make an impact on our lives. Often the people we spend our time with can have a NEGATIVE impact on us rather than building us up. We need to surround ourselves with the right roots. (Proverbs 13:20, 1 Cor. 15:33)
  • Teachers: Mike Howard, Timothy Jones

  • If a tree falls in the forest when no one is around… it SHOULD be heard – As brothers and sisters in Christ we should always be encouraging one another and even holding each other accountable for our actions. If one of our fellow Christians is struggling in any way, we should strive to have a relationship with them where we know about it and are able to help them get back to Jesus.
  • Teachers: Scott Taylor, Samantha Burns (Girls Only Class)

  • Growing Like a Cedar of Lebanon – Lebanon was known for their Cedars, we should be known as disciples of Jesus. (Hosea 14:5, Acts 4:13)
  • Teachers: Jon Podein, Landon Olson

  • Rooted in the Evidence – How can we be certain about where the Bible came from? Is this book really the complete word of God? How can I know for certain? This class will strive to show the evidence that proves that God is real and that we can stand on the word of God and that we can know through the evidence that it is real.
  • Teacher: Dean Meadows, James Hall
